Almondsbury put on a show of strength

IN this final game of the season, both teams were looking for a decisive win to improve their positions in the table.

With a confident display in the second quarter, Almondsbury secured a sizeable lead contributing to their eventual comfortable win.

Right from the whistle, Almondsbury signalled their intention. They started strongly with fast, snappy passing and tight defending with the goal keeper Lizzie Penfold making many interceptions.

In the first few minutes Almondsbury established an impressive six-goal lead. A stunned Lawn were given little opportunity to settle into any kind of rhythm.

Lawn were most successful with the quick breaks; long, fast powerful passes down the court to the shooters before Almondsbury re-establishing their resourceful defence. At the break Almondsbury led 15-8 and the second quarter started with Almondsbury continuing to play assured confident netball.

With a display of power and skill they racked up the goals. Lawn were unable to respond with any kind of sustained challenge but with the defence working stoically they did show flashes of excellent play. At half time, Almondsbury had an impressive 37-18 advantage.

In the opening minutes of the third quarter, Almondsbury continued with their power play scoring freely and went into the final quarter 53-32 ahead.

A team change by Almondsbury saw them falter. Their play was less assured with a loss in consistency and passes going astray. Lawn pounced on this taking the opportunity to seriously challenge Almondsbury. With Almondsbury defending strongly all around the court they succeeded in disrupting Lawn's counter attacks. As the Almonsbury team changes bedded in so their play became more assured and confident and Almondsbury ran out easy winners.
